Teacher Evaluations
Examination Services also scores mid-semester and end-of-semester student evaluations. End-of-semester evaluations are scored using either the GSA program (see surveys) or the Course and Instruction Survey (CIS) program. The scoring results of the CIS program breaks the class down by majors, non-majors and class level as well as total class response. Each group then has its own number of subjects, number of responses per item, percentage of the section, omits, means, median, variance, and subtotal. (Evaluations are scored on a first come, first served basis. Turn around time is slower than for tests, because of the large volume of requests for course evaluation scoring at the end of the semester.)
With a program called Teaching Analysis by Students (TABS), instructors can asess feedback from students at mid-term. This is a good way to gauge classroom opinion with time left in the semester to make necessary changes. The TABS program employs a separate 26-question sheet (4521): students make their responses on a mark-sense answer sheet. TABS question and answer sheets are available at Examination Services. Results include the number of students and the percentage of students selecting each response. Subtotals and omits are provided for each question.
Faculty and Graduate Teaching Assistants can also complete the TABS and compare their perceptions of the class with their students' perceptions.
If there are questions about TABS, please contact Examination Services.
Examples of student/course evaluations questions or information on developing your own questionnaire can be found at the Examination Services Office (336 Canfield).
